Real Life with the Lively Letters:
A series of interviews with the lively characters we all know and love!
This interview is with the letter U, the Toddler – one of our superstar vowels!

Reporter: Peek-a-boo! I see you in your crib! Aren’t you a cute little girl!
Letter u – The Toddler:   I’m not little. I’m a big girl and I want to get u-u-up, out of this crib!

Reporter: Well, how about if you just stay there while I ask you a few quick questions? I’ll let you hold this microphone!
Letter u  – The Toddler:  Uh-huh. I can hold it all by myself. Hey, this microphone tastes yucky!

Reporter: Oh, no, you’re not supposed to put it in your mouth! Here, let me dry if off for you…
Letter u  – The Toddler: I can do it myself! Look, I’m wiping it on my shirt!

Reporter:   Oh, um, sure…I guess that will work.  OK, let’s start with your age.  How old are you?
Letter u – The Toddler:   I’m this many! (The Toddler holds up 2 fingers.)

Reporter:   Wow, two years old.  What a smart little girl you are.
Letter u  – The Toddler:  I’m not little, I’m a BIG girl and I want to get up!

Reporter: I just have a few more questions. Do you have any pets?
Letter u  – The Toddler:  I have a puppy! His name is Mutt!

Reporter:   How lucky! Does Mutt like to play in the crib with you?
Letter u  – The Toddler:  No, my mommy won’t let Mutt in the crib with me because I keep pulling his tail. If you pick me up out of this crib I’ll show you how I do it.

Reporter:   Oh, no, I don’t think that’s a good idea.
Letter u  – The Toddler:  Why do you wear those glasses? Are your eyes broken?

Reporter:  No, but sometimes things look fuzzy to me, and these glasses help me see better.
Letter u  – The Toddler:   Can I try them?

Reporter:   Well, I guess so.  I’ll help you hold them so they don’t break.
Letter u  – The Toddler:  Uh-uh. I’m big! I can do it by myself!

Reporter:   OK, but be very careful.
Letter u  – The Toddler:   These taste yucky! I don’t want them anymore! I want to get up! I want my mommy!

Reporter:   Yes, me too! I mean, I will go get your mommy for you.  Do you want to do me a big favor and clean those glasses off first?
Letter u  – The Toddler:   No, I’m too little.

Reporter:   Right. What was I thinking?

Lively Letters Recipe: “6-Layer NONUT Cookie Bars”
Did you know that the Toddler is allergic to nuts and coconut?  She would get really sick if she ate them, so she help her mother make “7-Layer Bars” with only SIX layers – they skip the nuts and the coconut and add some crunchy apples! The Toddler calls this recipe her “6-Layer NONUT Cookie Bars” because it has “no nuts!”  Click on the picture of the cooking toddler to print out a recipe for a yummy dessert that’s made with graham crackers, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and apples! It’s fun to make and yummy to eat!
