Typical Gains

Although each case is unique, students trained with the Reading with TLC materials and techniqes typically show improvements of 1 1/2 to 3 grade levels in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonetic decoding, and oral reading. Given intensive remediation in the TLC program (30 – 45 minutes daily for 6 – 8 weeks), this dramatic improvement is usually apparent after the first few weeks.

The chart below, which illustrates the results from the pilot study in Boston, is representative of the gains that students consistently achieve with use of the Reading with TLC program.

Average Grade Level Gains
Results of testing students from regular and special education classrooms (including cognitively delayed, visually impaired, bilingual, and dyslexic students). Students typically received services 30 – 45 minutes daily for 30 sessions, seen in small groups of 1, 2, or 3. Data from pilot study on students serviced 1990 – 1996 in Boston, MA.
